Hello swimming enthusiasts!
Today I am back to recap some big news in the collegiate swimming world: Harvard has come away with the 2018 Ivy League Championship title for Women’s Swimming and Diving!
The event was hosted at Harvard from February 14th to February 17th, and featured up-and-coming swimmers on the collegiate level. This was Harvard’s third win in the past five years, defeating runner-up Yale by a margin of 125.5 points.
Highlights of the competition included:
- Yale senior Cailley Silbert won the endurance-testing 1650 freestyle, completing her four-year sweep in the event
- Penn freshman Quinn Scannell won her first Ivy title in the 200 backstroke. More is definitely in store for years to come!
- Yale sophomore Cha O’Leary went undefeated in both breaststroke events, clocking in at a 2:11.26 in the 200
- Princeton swept first and second place in the taxing 200 butterfly
- Princeton finished just ahead of Harvard in an exhilarating 4×100 freestyle relay. Princeton clocked in at a 3:18.33, Harvard at a 3:18.39, Yale at a 3:18.80, and Brown at a 3:19.09. What a race!
After Yale came in last year to break a 17-year streak of wins for Harvard or Princeton, Harvard reestablished itself this year with an exciting win.
Many freshmen women showed promise for the future at this meet. Here are some names to look out for:
- Quinn Scannell (Penn): backstroke
- Cate Sawkins (Yale): backstroke
- Michelle Owens (Harvard): distance freestyle
- Kennidy Quist (Harvard): sprint freestyle
- Ingrid Wall (Harvard): sprint freestyle
